Luke Lucas: Typographer M.D.

Following yesterday’s post . . . I thought that I would do a little visual research on Luke Lucas, the typographer that created the Big Mouth Project logo. You can read an interview on Computer Love. Lucas is also responsible for the ultra rad Lifelounge Magazine type designs, which redefine the boundaries of types role in storytelling.

Change by Design

Tim Brown announced his new book, Change by Design, on his blog. I am looking forward to its publication during September.

Leslie David

Leslie David has some beautiful, austere work, which feels both modern and personal.

Devo-lution

There is an interesting interview with Mark Mothersbaugh and Gerald Casale of Devo on Wired. I was particularly struck by a thought concerning an artist’s relationship to technology. Mark and Gerald say that new technology often removes artists from the decision-making process by essentially providing them with unlimited options. I think the we (me included) believe that options are inherently good, i.e. the more options, the better. This logic assumes that given an infinite number of options, we will always arrive at the option we like. We can all see the impact of this logic in consumer culture, but I have never approached it from the perspective of an artist. For me, art is opinion in its rawest form, and opinion is not a matter of options; it is a matter of perspective. Hey, this post seems ripe for an art project.
